Thanks so much for the reply. I will proceed.

I have recently had major problems with my backup software, 
Retrospect, and a very expensive VXA Firewire tape drive. Retrospect 
started quitting the backup process, claiming it didn't have enough 
memory. On a 1 gigabyte dual G5 machine, this seemed ridiculous. But 
I purchased two more gigabytes of matched, guaranteed, high-speed ram 
and got the same result. Retrospect claimed I should pull the 
original Apple RAM even though I have had no other trouble with the 
machine, except for Retrospect. I felt that was ridiculous.

if anyone has better backup software that will run a VXA tape drive, 
please chime in.
