I have recently had major problems with my backup software, Retrospect, and a very expensive VXA Firewire tape drive. Retrospect started quitting the backup process, claiming it didn't have enough memory. On a 1 gigabyte dual G5 machine, this seemed ridiculous. But I purchased two more gigabytes of matched, guaranteed, high-speed ram and got the same result. Retrospect claimed I should pull the original Apple RAM even though I have had no other trouble with the machine, except for Retrospect. I felt that was ridiculous.

if anyone has better backup software that will run a VXA tape drive, please chime in.

Hi again, Anita's reply was correct - I got to the same point & wondered if it was going to upgrade, as I had serious trouble at the time I migrated from 6.x to 7.x, but the 7.x to iTools 8 upgrade went pretty much fine. I have heard that problem before with Retrospect - I think it's actually some kind of memory leak, though I can't confirm it. Have you tried something like psync? It's not given me a day's problem & I use external devices for backups. --
