Closeout Sale On Tenon's UNIX For Mac OS

Award-winning UNIX software for Mac OS being discontinued

Santa Barbara, CA, October 15, 2001. Tenon Intersystems is offering Power MachTen and MachTen CodeBuilder on CD at closeout prices as long as supplies last. MachTen was first introduced in 1990 and was Tenon's flagship product for almost a decade. The concept behind MachTen was to strengthen Apple's operating system by enabling UNIX to live alongside of Mac OS - the strength of UNIX, the beauty of Mac OS. Now that Apple's new operating system, Mac OS X, is shipping and has been widely endorsed by press and users alike, Tenon is retiring their unique and well-respected UNIX for Mac OS.

If you have a Macintosh that can run Mac OS X 10.1, Tenon strongly recommends Apple's new OS. However, if you're not ready to jump to Mac OS X, or if you have hardware that is not Mac OS X capable, then Tenon's MachTen is a powerful tool that will put new life into an older Mac. Over the years, customers have used MachTen as a DNS server, an FTP server, a mailing list server, an NFS server, an AppleTalk gateway, a back-up system for Xerox Docutech files, and a development platform.

MachTen is a Mach/BSD UNIX that runs side-by-side with Mac OS, letting you continue to run Macintosh applications and giving you UNIX terminal windows on your Finder desktop as well as a dedicated X Window desktop. MachTen extends Mac OS with a family of dynamically linked shared libraries that create a UNIX virtual machine-based execution environment with pre-emptive multitasking. MachTen's native fast file system, running side-by-side with the Mac OS file system, removes Mac OS file system name length limitations and sizing restrictions.

MachTen contains a complete UNIX software development environment with a source-level debugger and C, C++, Objective-C, Ada95, Java and Fortran77 compilers all generating native PPC code. Because MachTen creates binary PowerPC Executable Format (PEF) files that can integrate directly with other Macintosh development tools, software developers can combine Macintosh debuggers and compilers with the MachTen tool suite to get the best of both the Macintosh and UNIX worlds. MachTen also includes internet scripting tools (Perl and tcl/tk) for web developers.

Both Power MachTen and MachTen CodeBuilder come on CD with BSD UNIX source code and on-line documentation. Power MachTen is $99 and MachTen CodeBuilder (a subset of MachTen) is $49. This offer is good as long as supplies last.
