iTools 8.2.4: A perfect WebSTAR replacement

Web, DNS, FTP on Mac OS X client with web-based configuration

Santa Barbara, CA, July 20, 2007. Tenon announced today iTools 8.2.4, with the latest Apache 2.2.4, for Intel and PPC Macs. Tenon's iTools is an eighth-generation commercial web-based GUI for configuration and management of Apache, DNS and FTP. Apache 2.2.4 is considered the best available version of Apache, offering tremendous improvements in authentication, proxy and cache from previous versions. On Apple's new Intel platform, coupled with Mac OS X client, iTools features unbeatable price performance characteristics. iTools' secure, domain-specific, browser-based web administration makes Apache on Mac OS X the easiest web server in the world to administer.

WebSTAR customers who have switched to iTools are enjoying better performance, superb Tenon support, and, most important, the freedom that using an open source web server provides over the proprietary province of 4D's (now Kerio's) WebSTAR. Apache is the world's most popular web server, running on more than 65 million servers on various OS platforms. Apache 2.2.4 has new architectural features resulting in significantly improved memory and disk utilization, support for files greater than 2GB, and a new database interface architecture, enabling database applications to work more efficiently. These and a legion of other improvements contribute to the faster performance and very robust operation.

In addition to Apache 2.2,4, Tenon's iTools 8.2.4 now includes extended MySQL support, with DBI and DBD modules included, proFTP 1.3 with improved FTP handling to better support multiple webmasters securely managing a single site, URL rewriting improvements, enhanced support for Mac OS X Server (but, of course, iTools on the workstation version of OS X is more cost-effective), and DNS improvements . With iTools, web-hosting providers can automate hosting tasks and delegate administration, empowering customers and lowering support costs. Sub-administrators can manage their own name or IP-based web sites and view their own logs, without compromising the privacy or security of the multi-server machine.

iTools, in two separate packages, one for Intel and one for PPC, is $349. An iTools bundle that includes Post.Office, a mail and list server, WEBmail, a web-based mail client, and one year of technical support is $999. See the Tenon web site (http://www.tenon.com) for more details and to purchase.
