Anybody who shares my pain? When starting Mozilla (latest daily builds since several weeks) from Xtools I can't use the keyboard. The mouse works fine however. Any tips?

Are you using the Aqua window style? Some X11 applications (most KDE applications) have problems with keyboard input when no window manager is running, which is the case for the Aqua style. This is not so much a bug in Xtools but a design flaw with KDE and a little bit also conceptual problem with our Aqua style manager. For now it helps to start a "real" window manager like twm or mwm...Stefan IP: Logged |

Yes, I'm using the Aqua "window manager".During > 10 years of UNIX/X usage, I've never encountered an application which requires that a window manager is used. In fact, an X application is more or less unaware of the existence of window managers. But thanks for the tip, anyhow. I'll try what you suggest. IP: Logged |

That was was I thought when I began debugging this issue with one KDE application. Turns out it does not accept keyboard input on Linux systems with Xfree either if you don't have a window manager running...Stefan IP: Logged |

Good gosh - you're right.I tried to start Mozilla on my Linux machine without a window manager - and it doesn't accept keyboard input! I've submitted a bug report in Bugzilla: < http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=76854 > IP: Logged |

And for what it's worth:I'm not using KDE, but Gnome. (And Mozilla isn't a "KDE" application, rather an "X application".) IP: Logged |

OK, my statement was not very informed. I was referring to X11 applications using the Gnome toolkit, which I associate with KDE. I noticed similar behavior with other applications as well. Seems not to be specific to Mozilla...Stefan IP: Logged |

fwit...sounds very similar to the bug that they had (and seems to still exist) when running star office..the mouse works, keyboard is dead, and remains dead in all open X apps until you restart XTools..IP: Logged |
