Tenon should get out the cake and candles. It will soon be 1 year from the first announcement that this somewhat vaporous product (it's more than vaporware, but not much) was announced as "in the offing". Here is my catalog of official announcements made in this forum and by email:18 October 2001: "An Xtools 1.1 is in the offing. It will conform to XFree86 4.1 and address various shortcomings, including improving the display engine.

16 January 2002: "Sorry for the lack of Tenon activity on this board. We have suffered a major network outage because of our ISP. After co-locating our server I have not been able to log in to post replies.
Anyway,
I want to assure all users here that a 1.1 update is forthcoming. The latest version of XFree86 has been compiled along with a complete set of libGLU tools.
Our developers have been slowed down by the network outage as well. Xtools is NOT a dead product. We are working hard to address all of the issues of the previous version. We do not want to release it before these bugs are worked out. Please stay tuned for more information. --Stephie"

25 April 2002: "We have not given up on Xtools. We did have an extremely long, unplanned delay in development. We can say with assurance that an Xtools 1.1 is coming and that will be the version burned on CD. And you and others will receive this and a hard copy manual for only shipping charges.
We have an internal version of 1.1 that some have requested. We have been extremely remiss in keeping you all aprised of our situation. We expect visible progress now and we'll post that progress on this discussion board. -Anita"

22 May 2002: "Now about Tenon giving up on Xtools. We have not abandoned Xtools. We had some internal problems and serious resource limitations which resulted in an interruption in Xtools development. As I said previously, we are now back on track and Xtools 1.1 is progressing. I don't want to give a date until we have hard information, but we have been criticized for not being forthcoming, so we will be quick to pass Xtools 1.1 information along.
Meanwhile, don't hesitate to request Xtools 1.1a1, which supports XFree86 4.2. You can use the updated XFree foundation with 1.0.4 as well. Just send the request to info@tenon.com. -Anita"

21 August 2002: "Hi, My name is Erik Lotspeich and I am the new lead developer on the Xtools project here at Tenon. I have every intention of improving the Xtools product by eliminating the stability issues and producing a Jaguar-ready version of Xtools.
The development team here at Tenon is making Xtools a priority and we are going to work as hard as possible to make Xtools the best X Server product for Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server. Thanks, Erik."

To his credit, Erik is the first person who has not used the word "soon" or one of its synonyms. I'll also bake a cake, on the 19th it will be exactly 2 years since I purchased an Xtools license. Polite comments are not possible.
